PC Currie died when he was involved in a collision on the Glasgow to Edinburgh road near Newhouse whilst travelling to take up duty.

Constable John MACLEOD (31)

City of Glasgow Police

PC MacLeod died after he was shot in Hyndland Road Glasgow as he and another officer approached a male wanted for theft of a large sum of money from a city bank. PC MacLeod was posthumously awarded the Queens Commendation for Bravery. He was survived by his wife and young son.

PC Ross died when his police motorcycle was in collision with a lorry at Deskford Banffshire.

Inspector William Alexander FINDLATER (51)

PI Findlater was found dead in his car near Waterton. He died of heart failure whilst touring his area on supervisory duties.

Sergeant William GIBSON (44)

Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary

PS Gibson died when he and other officers investigated reports of an armed man roaming the Dumfries streets in the early hours. The sergeant and two colleagues made a search of the area. As they drew up alongside a man loitering on a corner the man produced a shotgun and with little warning shot Sgt Gibson in the head. He was survived by his wife and two children and was posthumously awarded the Kings Commendation for Bravery.

Constable Andrew Crichton GREENSHIELDS (50)

PC Greenshields collapsed and died near his home shortly before policing a football match. He was survived by his wife and two daughters.

PC Ferrier died when his police vehicle skidded and overturned in Edinburgh.

PC Ramage collapsed and died in the police office at the main gate of the Naval Supplies Depot Lathalmond Dunfermline.

Constable Stewart Cameron MACDONALD (21)

PC MacDonald was struck by a train on the railway line near Yoker Ferry Road as he searched for suspects on a foggy night.

PC Christie died when his motorcycle was involved in a collision with a motor lorry at Kinross.

SC Perrie collapsed and died after returning to the police station having assisted colleagues at a large disturbance of soldiers in Inverness.

PS McDonald died when his car was in collision with another vehicle at the junction of Clippens Road and Bridge of Weir Road Linwood as he retruned to Johnstone from the Police ARP stores. He was survived by his wife and child.

PC Shepherd died when his motorcycle was involved in a collision at Gairloch Road Rhu.

Special Constable David THOMSON (53)

SC David Thomson was directing traffic at Cross Road, Strathmiglo during the black-out when he was struck by a motor vehicle, and died of head injuries.

Died whilst attending a report of a suspicious object at Broughty Ferry. This would appear to have been an item of ordnance which exploded causing catastrophic injuries to PC Stirrat.
