SC Storrar died whilst attempting to secure a drifting mine on the beach at West Wemyss. As he attempted to stop the mine approaching the town it exploded killing him and those assisting him.


On 23rd January 1941, Special Constable George Storrar was alerted to a drifting mine near to the village of West Wemyss in Fife. With the assistance of 4 others, one a boy of 15, they tried to secure the mine to prevent it getting any closer to the village, or drift into the harbour area. Unfortunately the mine exploded, killing all five.

There is a memorial to the men in West Wemyss, and Special Constable Storrar`s name is engraved on the Scottish Police Memorial.
