Constable Finlay MCAULAY (34)
City of Glasgow Police
PC McAulay died when he fell into the River Clyde near Custom House Quay and drowned. PS Roberts was crossing the Portland Street suspension bridge when he heard splashing and saw someone struggling in the water nearby.He called for assistance and PC McAulays body was found about an hour later.
Constable Archibald COOK (53)
Bute County Constabulary
PC Cook was found dead just after midnight, a short distance from his home at Invercloy, Brodick Isle of Arran. He was presumed to have died of natural causes.
Constable Robert DICKSON (21)
City of Glasgow Police
PC Dickson was on foot patrol, and reportedly one hour into his first shift, when he responded to a call for assistance from his neighbouring constable. As he ran along Ropework Lane to assist, he fell heavily and sustained a head injury. He was found unconscious a short time later and placed in a cab to the police station but died before he arrived there.
Subsequent examination found he had died from an undiagnosed heart condition.
Police Sergeant James TAYLOR (48)
Lanarkshire Constabulary
PS Taylor died of injuries sustained whilst rescuing persons during a fire in Allison Street, Crosshill, Lanarkshire.
Whilst on foot nearby, he was alerted to the fire and immediately began to evacuate the tenement property. As he led residents from the upper floors to safety their path was blocked as the ground floor hallway was fully involved in fire. Sgt Taylor then led the tenants onto a balcony on the first floor and was able to gain entry to the adjacent building allowing all the residents to escape.
He died 10 days later as a result of smoke inhalation. PS Taylor had served in the army in India and the Crimea. He had 17 years police service and was survived by his wife.
Constable Robert GOURLAY (30)
Roxburghshire Constabulary
PC Gourlay died of disease related to an injury on duty sustained some months previously.
Constable John HARRIS (41)
Edinburgh City Police
PC Harris fell on a narrow winding stairway on his beat in the Grassmarket.
He sustained a head injury from which he never recovered.
Constable James MCCALL (23)
Lanarkshire Constabulary
PC McCall died in an accidental explosion of dynamite at railway works near Burnbank Hamilton
Constable William FORBES (36)
Inverness Burgh Police
PC Forbes died when the riverbank gave way in Ness Walk Inverness and he fell into the river and was drowned.
Constable Donald McKinnon ANDERSON (38)
Alloa Burgh Police
PC Anderson died as a result of complications to a compound fracture of the leg after falling whilst on duty.
Police Constable Hugh MCCALLUM (43)
Dundee City Police
PC McCallum collapsed in North Tay Street and died on his way home from duty. He completed about 18 years service and was survived by his wife and family.
Police Constable Francis NOBLE (26)
City of Glasgow Police
PC Noble was making his way to take up duty when he collapsed and died. He was unmarried and worked in the Central District.
Constable George MCARTHUR (71)
Greenock Burgh Police
PC McArthur was speaking to two men on his beat at West Quay Greenock when he collapsed and died.
Constable James MCLELLAN (22)
Paisley Burgh Police
PC McLelland was found dead in the river Cart at Paisley. It was presumed he had fallen in on night duty when the river was in spate.
Constable Joseph LITTLE (29)
City of Glasgow Police
PC Little died of ulcerated / perforated bowels due to injuries sustained on duty when he was knocked down & severely kicked, during a disturbance at Barrowfield Toll.
He was survived by his wife.
Constable William SWANSON (48)
Edinburgh City Police
PC Swanson fell into the Union Canal at Fountainbridge and drowned.
Constable Richard WHITE (56)
Dundee City Police
PC White died two weeks sustaining a head injury after losing his footing and falling downstairs in a common close early in the morning.
Sergeant James WATSON (48)
Dundee City Police
PS Watson died whilst assisting at the scene of a fire in Trades Lane Dundee. Part of the wall collapsed on him and the Fire Brigade Superintendent burying them under blazing debris.
Constable Donald McINTYRE (44)
City of Glasgow Police
PC McIntyre was standing at the bar of the Clyde Police Office with a prisoner when he collapsed and subsequently died at home. He had 12 years police service and was survived by his wife.
Constable Peter SKIRVING (33)
Edinburgh City Police
PC Skirving fell breaking his leg while helping extinguishing a fire among whins on the Calton Hill. He died after his leg was amputated a week later. He was a single man.
Inspector Lachlan MCKINNON (39)
Greenock Burgh Police
PI McKinnon died after he was stabbed by a male who was causing a disturbance in Hamilton Street Greenock. He was survived by his wife and young family.

Constable Thomas MUTCH (29)
Edinburgh City Police
PC Mutch died of a head injury two weeks after he was assaulted as he attempted to arrest the ringleaders at a disturbance in Grassmarket Edinburgh. A large group emerged from neighbouring closes and attacked him and his colleague whereby he was struck on the eye with a poker.

PC Wilson was mustering in Leith police station preparing for night duty when he collapsed suddenly and died.
Police Constable James DORAN (33)
Edinburgh City Police
Constable Doran died in hospital after he fell down the stairs leading to his home on the way from duty. He was 33 years old and was survived by his wife.
Constable William SWAN (27)
Dundee City Police
PC Swan died after he was blown into the King William Dock in Dundee and drowned.
Police Constable Hugh McLEAN (21)
Lanarkshire Constabulary
PC McLEAN was last seen returning to his station at Hollytown via the canal bank after special duty policing a `Trotting` event in Airdrie. He was lated found drowned in the Monkland Canal by a boatman. Presumed to have fallen in the canal due to the `state of the bank` at that location.
He was a single man and was survived by his father who was a Police Constable in Renfrewshire.
