PS Herd died whilst serving with Strathclyde Police Air Support Unit when the police helicopter in which he was the observer crash landed in a snowstorm. He was survived by his wife and four children.

Detective Sergeant William Ross HUNT (56)

Detective Sergeant Hunt was stabbed to death on the 5th of June 1983 whilst making enquiries into an attempted murder incident.
 
DS Hunt and other officers attended the home address of the suspect at Larkhall but the suspect was not at home and the officers returned to their vehicle.
 
At this time, the suspect approached the address with other members of his family. DS Hunt walked toward the group to explain the reason for their visit, however the group attacked him and stabbed him to death.
 
He was 56 years of age and had over 30 years police service at that time.
 
3 Persons were convicted of his murder.
 
He was survived by his wife and children.

PC Adamson died when his police vehicle left the road and hit a tree due to black ice near Whitburn, whilst assisting Strathclyde Police with urgent medical supplies 

He was survived by his wife and baby daughter .

PC Doris died when his police vehicle was involved in a collision on the south side of Glasgow.

PC Macphail died after he collapsed whilst representing the force in the veterans section of the Police Athletic Association Badminton Championship. He was survived by his wife and nine children.

PS Thomson died when his police vehicle was involved in a collision whilst attending an emergency call to Croy village near Cumbernauld. He lost control during icy conditions and was struck by another vehicle. He was survived by his wife and two adult children.

SC Bell died when the police vehicle in which he was travelling was involved in a collision with another vehicle near Bonnybridge. He was survived by his wife and three sons.

Constable John PRUMMER (46)

PC Prummer collapsed whilst on duty within Police HQ at Fettes and was taken to hospital where he later died. 

He was 46 years old, had completed 21 years police service and was survived by his wife and 4 children.
