PC Dickson died as a result of enemy action during an air raid.

Police Sergeant Frederick Welsh CROSBIE (46)

10 Feb 1941
Dumfriesshire Constabulary

PS CROSBIE took ill while on partol and was conveyed to his home where medical attention was sought. The doctor could do nothing for him and he died soon after.

He had joined Dumfries Burgh Police in 1919 and was promoted Sergeant in 1940

He was survived by his wife and two children.


Police Inspector James Smith MILNE (49)

Greenock Burgh Police

Inspector Milne collapsed and died in the Central Police Office, Dalrymple Street in Greenock on night duty. He was survived by his wife and family.


Special Constable George Lambert STORRAR (38)

23 Jan 1941
Fife County Constabulary

SC Storrar died whilst attempting to secure a drifting mine on the beach at West Wemyss. As he attempted to stop the mine approaching the town it exploded killing him and those assisting him.

Assistant Chief Constable Robert Chisholm THOMSON (38)

Edinburgh City Police

ACC Thomson was shot by a drunken RAF Sergeant on leave during an air raid black-out when he was called out during the hours of darkness. He was survived by his wife.


Constable Samuel MCGOWAN (34)

Perthshire and Kinross-shire Constabulary

PC McGowan died when he fell into the River Tummel and was drowned.

Constable Arthur MALCOLMSON (23)

08 Feb 1940
Lanarkshire Constabulary

PC Malcolmson was travelling in an Auxiliary Fire Service vehicle to Bellshill to uplift equipment when it was in collision with a bus in foggy conditions.

Two firemen also lost their lives in the incident.

PC Malcolmson was single and was survived by his parents.

 

 


Special Constable John McPherson STEVENSON (38)

Special Constable STEVENSON was struck by a vehicle during the blackout and died of head injuries He was survived by his wife and 8 month old daughter.


Constable William McCLIMENS (35)

Perthshire and Kinross-shire Constabulary

PC McClimens took ill playing cricket in Blairgowrie for the Police Team against the local Council Team - died later in hospital of a brain bleed. He was survived by his wife.


Constable Andrew MATTHEW (49)

Aberdeen City Police

PC Matthew died when his pedal cycle was in collision with a motor vehicle in Hilton Drive Aberdeen as he cycled home from duty. He was survived by his wife and young family.

PS Curry collapsed and died whilst on night duty in Pollokshields Road. He was survived by his wife and two daughters.

PC Proudfoot and Murdoch died after being struck by a goods train whilst on plain clothes duty on the branch line between Cowlairs and Port Dundas.

PC Murdoch and Proudfoot died after being struck by a goods train whilst on plain clothes duty on the branch line between Cowlairs and Port Dundas.

Special Constable Albert William CURTIS (63)

13 Nov 1938
Perthshire & Kinross-shire Constabulary

Special Constable CURTIS was with other Special Constables attending ARP training in Perth when their car left the round. SC Curtis sustained serious injuries and was taken to Perth Royal Infirmary where he died nine days after the crash.

He was survived by his wife.

PC Brown died after being struck by a motor vehicle as he dealt with a previous collision on the outskirts of Inverness.

Constable Hugh DRYSDALE (37)

21 Mar 1938
Perth City Police

PC Drysdale took ill after reporting for duty and was sent home where he died a short time later.

Originally from Fife, he was described a a `model policeman` and had 12 years police service.

He was survived by his wife and young son.


Inspector Simon TAYLOR (41)

PS Taylor had just left his police vehicle at the foot of Hilltown Dundee when he collapsed and died.

Constable Hugh WELSH (36)

PC Welsh died as a result of an infection to a minor cut from broken glass he sustained whilst investigating a Housebreaking.

Constable Alexander CASTLE (27)

06 Sep 1937
Aberdeenshire Constabulary

PC Castle died from injuries received when his police motorcycle collided with an animal and crashed.


Constable James Kirkland HUTCHISON (44)

12 Aug 1937
Argyllshire Constabulary

PC Hutchison died while making ‘his usual visit to Kilmelford district, ten miles away,’ on his bicycle. He was accompanied by his son when he collapsed ‘wheeling his cycle up the steep road’.

He was survived by his wife and family


Constable Harry Ellis WILKINSON MM DCM (42)

PC Wilkinson died after he was struck by a vehicle as he waited for a bus in Carntyne on his way to take up duty.

PS EWEN was found drowned in the Rothesay Dock Clydebank after going missing on duty during bad weather.

Constable Robert Kennedy F SHEARER (31)

Moray & Nairn Constabulary

PC Shearer was on night duty and was found dead in the morning on the railway line by a railway surface man. Believed to be on a watch of a factory premises due to recent thefts and struck by a train.

He was a widower and had 12 years police service.


Police Inspector Alexander HENDERSON (58)

25 May 1934
London and North Eastern Railway Police

Inspector died after collapsed in Waverly Railway Station on duty. He completed about 22 years police service and was survived by his wife and grown-up daughter.


Constable James MCQUILKIN (33)

21 May 1933
Ayrshire Constabulary

PC McQuilkin died after his motorcycle struck a wall in Glasgow Street Ardrossan as he responded to an RTC in Shore Road. He was transported to the Victoria Infirmary in Glasgow where he died of his injuries.
